Blue Oval Company haven’t said anything about it, but the latest reports suggest that this is the new generation 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. The impressive car was and will be the mightiest option in Ford’s lineup, so we are eagerly waiting for some official words about the powertrain.

2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: Rumors and Engines

If you believe in rumors, then the 2018 Mustang Shelby GT500 is definitely getting a long-time speculated twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter Voodoo V8 engine. Yes, it’s the one that powers the new GT350, but it should be mightier, so let’s say it will be able to pump out at least 680 horsepower. Yet, the output could easily surpass these numbers, because the carmaker might squeeze its EcoBoost technologies, so in place of the current port injection, the powerful mill will have the direct fuel injection. The engine will be matted to an all-wheel drive system and a standard six-speed manual gearbox, so in case you are not good with the stiff shifting, you will have to take the optional 10-speed automatic transmission. The other, but less likely scenario is the updating of the current 5.0-liter Coyote V-8. Still, we really doubt that the manufacturer can wring out enough power to make the next generation Mustang Shelby GT500 competitive with its biggest rivals. Let’s remind you on the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 which has 650 horsepower and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat that develops 707 horsepower. These models are really impressive, so if Ford wants to compete, it must offer something mighty under the massive hood.

Styling Changes

As for the exterior styling, well the manufacturer has hidden the actual layout of the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, so we can tell you just we see. Compared to the GT350 model, which looks really amazing and has ultra-dynamic body, this beast will look even more aggressive. Yes, the front end is sharper and wider, while the hood gets a stylish power bulge. The wheels are having Brembos with cross-drilled rotors and wearing Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, which are pretty massive. Around back, the prototype looks largely to the Shelby GT350, except of the larger wing.

Estimated Price and Arrival

The 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be introduced before the end of this year, so we are expecting to see it at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. The starting price should be around $70K.
